Many of you have probably heard that I am currently in RCIA classes and am seriously considering becoming Catholic. This is a big decision, and I continue to pray about it. If you are Evangelical or Reformed or Reformed Evangelical, please tell me why you are not Roman Catholic. Here are some questions I cannot resolve within the Evangelical tradition and would like a good explanation from non-Catholics regarding these issues. This is because I'm finding it harder to think as I did as a Protestant and also because I want to make sure that I am rejecting Protestantism on its own terms. Questions: 1. What basis do you have for making Scripture the sole rule of authority, as opposed to Scripture, Tradition, and your church. 2. What do you do if your interpretation disagrees with that of your church? 3. If Polycarp or Ignatius or Augustine were to walk into your church, what would they think? Would they be comfortable there? Would they immediately recognize a Christian worship service? 4. How do your Christian beliefs square with reality? In other words, how do you live our your theology and is this more liveable than Catholic theology of salvation through prayer, self-denial, and good works? How does sola fide look practically? 5. Why should I stay Evangelical/Reformed? Thank you in advance to all those who answer. Pax Christi, Kacy |
